Dahl Docking Station MK 11 (2)
New design in 2015. A low profile floor mounted system , securing the wheelchair more safely for the wheelchair occupant as the driver or passenger in their vehicle.
Manufactured in Denmark , the first system on the market to be tested and TUV certified in accordance with EU safety requirements for cars and vans with an electric powerchair which weighs 150Kg with an intergrated lap belt.
In testing it performed so well to withstand a load equivalent to a wheelchair 200Kg plus passenger with a traditional seat belt installed in the floor of the vehicle.
It complies with the NZ LVVTA standard 45-60 , Disability transportation systems clauses 2.7 & 2.10.
To give wheel users further confidence in safety, the Dahl docking system has been specifically tested and certified with Power Wheelchair manufacturers specific model chairs. To view approved tested power chairs see www.dahlengineering.dk.
Electric power wheelchairs include some models from the following manufacturers TA Service , Invacare, Pride and Sunrise
These chairs have been tested by Dahl Engineering to comply with the latest International approved standards ISO 10542-5 (Restraint & Docking ).
Also ISO 7176-19 ( Specifically as a seat in a vehicle ), this ensures the wheel user
can remain seated safely in their electric wheelchair while driving a vehicle or as a passenger . They do not have to transfer out of their electric wheelchair into a vehicle seat.
How does the Dahl Docking system work ?
The powerchair is driven into the vehicle. A V shaped plate attached to the underside of the powerchair locks into the floor mounted docking system which is fitted to the floor of the vehicle. Once the wheelchair is in place it locks automatically. If not engaged in place properly a warning tone will sound. The system can release the wheelchair by pushing an electrical release button. If there is a power failure there is a manual mechanical release lever on the docking station or an optional manual operating control box with lever can be fitted within easier reach.
How is the Dahl System different ?
- As opposed to a pin/bolt system ,the wheelchair plate is a V shape
- The wheelchair V plate ( w x l, 10 x 19.5 cm) is larger ,this ensures the chair is always stable. Once locked in , the chair will not twist or move while driving.
- The V plate is very low profile under the chair protruding only 3cm , this ensures if the wheelchair hits a ground obstacle it will better slide off rather than catching.
There is an optional seat base on wheels available that works well with the docking system for the other vehicle occupant. This easily allows the wheelchair user to be the driver or occupant. Simply fit the vehicle manufacturers seat to the base. Compatible with Mercedes, VW vans and many others.
